Prints!

Tue Aug 28, 2007, 1:06 AM
Wow, it's been over two years since I've last entered a journal entry. Obviously my involvement in the DA community has gone to essentially none, but I do still check the site and have noticed a few of my older pieces still garner a consistent level of attention. In particular 'death' and '-welcome-' both of which I am in the process of making prints, something I should have done a LONG time ago. If anyone is interested in any of my other pieces being turned into prints let me know and it shall be done.

Cheers!

prepare for the onslaught!

it's been a while since i've check in, so why not another entry? well i've been painting a lot lately, trying to get down a lot of techniques, learning how to draw and paint exteriors, vehicles, machinery, all that good stuff. you know, a context for all the figures i draw.

after a lot of work in painter i've gone back to old faithful... the goodness that is photoshop. maybe it's because of my familiarity with the program, but i seem to get better results faster through it. painter is pretty awesome, and has a lot of great features i wish photoshop would incorporate (spinning the canvas! glow brush!) but for the most part i've got to give the superiority award to photoshop.

i'll try to throw up a quick painting a day for a bit, until i get really involved in some piece and don't have time for it. so yeah, get excited for that.

I SAID GET EXCITED!!!

wow. i live. i'm amazed too.

so a lot's happened since i've last posted or even been active within the da community. i've decided to turn my artistic focus to that of concept art, hopefully for that of the video game industry in the somewhat near future. this may be hard to believe given my current gallery and its more 'artsy' overtone, but it's what i enjoy doing and am apparently decent enough that i can make a living doing so. i'll be finishing up college in like a month, so the job hunt/portfolio polishing is on. i'll try to submit as many concept pieces as i can, getting feedback and such would be great when said pieces are submitted, but who knows when that'll be???

anyway, believe it or not, i live. and am back. sort of... haha.

Painter And Dimebag

Thu Dec 9, 2004, 3:20 AM
First off, although I've never been a huge Pantera fan, I do own 3 or 4 albums and do think Dimebag Darrell was a great guitarist. R.I.P. Dime, you'll go down as one of the greats. I'll have to bust out Vulgar Display of Power today in tribute.

Secondly, I've recently got my hands on Painter 9. I think I officially like Painter more than Photoshop. Blasphemy, I know. But considering I was only using photoshop for painting anyway, it was a natural transition. The stuff I'm doing now is what I've always tried to achieve in Photoshop... I'll post some stuff soon, you'll see what I mean.

To answer some questions, the 'Stalker' image I recently submitted is not for the upcoming console/pc game, rather an ill-fated project I started earlier this year. Seeing as how I had little to no tech knowledge in terms of games, I didn't make the greatest project lead and have since ditched it and started work as a concept artist with another game. And when I say game, I mean indy game... I don't work at Bungie or anything... yet... haha.

Anyway, I'll have some new stuff for you soon, kids! Sit tight!

prints and stuff

Listening to: fuzz townshend - smash it
Watching: just bought the eternal sunshine DVD...

I've tried submitting a few prints recently... But for some reason all have come back as 'rejected' which is really odd and annoying. I shape them to specification and work with high quality versions of the artwork at hand. Who knows? I'll keep fucking with it until they're accepted. I'm trying to get 'death' '-welcome-' and 'Angel of Death' up soon... If anyone wants any other works of mine available as prints, drop me a line and it shall be done... If they're not rejected that is.

In other news of sorts in my game development class an idea I pitched to the rest of the class was voted as being game worthy and as such I've been appointed lead game designer on said game. Which is neat on one hand, but now I've got a lot more responsibility and time to put into that class than I initially planned on the other. But if all goes well and a demo of the game is finished and playable I'll have quite the portfolio piece to show off.

My aforementioned graphic novel I'm working on with my brother is still in story mode and is moving along quite sluggishly... I still hope to reach our August '05 deadline, but with this game thing going on now that may be tough...

If you haven't seen the movie Shaun of the Dead, do whatever need be to see it. It's beyond awesome, an instant classic, in my opinion. If you enjoyed it then get ahold of the British show Spaced, which is not only done by the same team, but once again one of the coolest things I've ever seen, and easily one of my favorite thing in recent memory. The soundtracks to both of these are good listens as well.
